Oakland and Pittsburgh Strike Deal

[Pittsburgh Pirates]

The Pittsburgh Pirates have sent 

SP Anthony Desclafani, CIN  2020 $9.25M, 2021 UFA

to Oakland, in exchange for two prospects....

2B/SS Jorge Mateo, SDP,  0.2M
SP/RP Tyler Baum, OAK,  0.2M


The Pirates did this with the belief that San Diego will give Mateo the opportunity to win the 2B job this year and should spend most of the year in the majors.  Baum is a guy that at least will not be sitting around this year and hopefully will continue to develop in a good farm system.

A’s will accept. We are in a push to defend our title and believe that Descalfani gives us a better chance to do so than the 2 prospects.
