It's been WAY too long since we've had a trade in this league so the Fake Mets and I needed to fix that!
Brewers receive:
Mets receive:
Despite a lull in real baseball activities, this deal proves there's really no offseason in fantasy baseball. After quite a bit of back and forth over a prolonged period of time, we were finally able to come to a deal we could both live with. I like both the potential for Price and Dom Smith this year. I like Price moving to the Dodgers and with a universal DH I think Dom could have more opportunities then ever before. He's proven he can hit while in the minors he's just never been given an extended look in the bigs. Maybe that changes now. Price is over-priced (pun intended) but with the salary relief and the ability to re-structure his contract his salary will be a bit more palatable. Harris and Zuber are two prospects we like and were able to get added to the deal while DSJ and Agrazal were included just to open 40-man roster spots for the Mets. We're not sure if they'll stick with the Brew Crew or not.
Bassitt was rather good last year, but looks like he'll be squeezed out of a rotation spot going forward. Bauers has seemingly forgotten how to hit and Toussaint is mired in the deep Atlanta system and can't seem to differentiate himself. We've lost a bit of faith in both. Wentz is recovering from TJS and Mangum is a total lottery ticket. The main piece we're giving up is Harrison who was showing drastic improvement in his game this spring. With that said, Villar and Dickerson have already claimed 2 of the 3 starting spots in the Miami OF and Harrison is no guarantee for the 3rd. He has the potential to be a 5-category stud, but also has the potential to be a .240 hitter that K's over 200 times in a season. Lot's of ways that could go.
Ultimately I think this trade gets me another veteran SP and some upside with Dom Smith. For the Met's it's more about casting a wide net with some youngsters and prospects. Plus he sheds salary. It's a deal I think we can both live with.
Thanks to the Fake Mets for the prolonged talks and eventual deal. Best of luck this year (if we have one).
