In a blockbuster deal, Dodgers send:
SP Max Scherzer WAS (2020/$17.835; 2021/$21.3075 + 25% cap relief on 2021 = $15.98) - $5.32 cap hit and Nick Lodolo (.3) to Dodgers 1B/RF Clay Bellinger LAD (2020/$4; 2021/ARB 2; 2022/ARB 3)
to A's for
SP Walker Buehler LAD (2020/$1; 2021/ARB 1; 2022/ARB 2; 2023/ARB 3) SP Mackenzie Gore SAN (.3)
With Bellinger heading to ARB 2 and a likely $16 salary, Scherzer's salary getting a little bump, and several other players heading into ARB 1 next year, Dodgers cap was getting squeezed. With A's putting entire pitching staff OTB, it was just a matter of making a deal make sense for both parties.
We love Walker Buehler and his TC contract and feel Mackenzie Gore's upside in pitcher's friendly Petco Park will make an impact for the Padres at some point this year.
Giving up MVP Bellinger and his 500 points will be difficult to replace, but felt the opportunity to acquire Buehler and Gore were worth Bellinger and Scherzer. Nick Lodolo, while a high floor SP, was the last piece to get this deal done.
Thanks to A's for picking up the phone (Slack) quickly in response to the inquiry, and for getting this deal done in a matter of minutes. Best of luck with the MVP outfield this season.

A's accept. Really hard to let go of a pair of young studs in Gore and Buehler, but our window is open right now and the A's are trying to win back to back titles here. Bellinger is one of the best hitters in the game and only 24, and Scherzer is still a top 5 SP right now. Thanks to LAD for being flexible and getting this done quickly.
