After a bit of negotiation the Mets and D-Backs have come to agreement on the following trade...
Mets get: Merrill Kelly, SP, Diamondbacks. 2020/7M 2021/7M 2022/UFA
D-Backs get: Scott Moss, SP, Indians. 2020/0.2M prospect Asher Wojciechowski, SP, Orioles. 2020/2.25M 2021/UFA Jared Walsh, 1B, Angels. 2020/0.2M prospect Mark Payton, LF, Reds. 2020/0.2M prospect
We hate trading away Kelly who showed last year he is a solid SP, and he was a part of the staff we have built here, which in our opinion is one of the best in the league. But, the time was right to get a few younger guys we love. Jared Walsh has serious power which he showed off at the AAA level. If he can do even close to that at the MLB level we will be happy. Moss is a very good SP prospect and at AAA in the Indians system...with Kluber now gone, All the young guys move up a notch in the pecking order. Payton was just selected by the Reds in the Rule 5 draft after having a very good season at AAA. He's a little older for prospects, but if he can do that in spring training the Reds will have to keep him in the bigs and they will use him...basically he would add depth at that point to our outfield. Getting Wojciechowski could be interesting and plug the hole Kelly leaves in our rotation. He showed signs of being very solid last season in stretches. We are hoping he just wore down at the end of the year. At worst he is a depth piece on our staff.
Thanks to the Mets front office for the deal, as always it was a pleasure! Good luck this season!

The New York Mets accept.
I was looking for an upgrade over my 6th SP Wojchnicekshfh (or whatever his name is). Kelly was one of my top choices since I looked to pair my ace Bumgarner with another starter from the Dbacks rotation.
To make this a fair deal I added some minor leaguers with Scott Moss being the centerpiece. Moss seems like one of the top candidates to pitch for the Indians at some point in 2020 after they traded Bauer and Kluber lately. His MILb numbers point to him being a solid pitcher. The package is rounded out by two hitters that belonged to the best in the Minors last year with Walsh even being selected into Baseball America‘s MILB team of 2019.
I would like to thank the Dbacks GM for the fun trade talks and wish Asher, Scott, Jared and Mark all the best in Arizona.
Welcome to funky NYC, Merryl, and as always let’s go Mets!
