The Brewers and White Sox would like to announce a trade.
The Brewers receive:
Trea Turner, 2B, WASH $1.02/$2.04/ARB1/ARB2/ARB3/UFA
and prospect
Chance Sisco, C, BAL
The White Sox receive:
Lance McCullers, SP, HOU $1.04/$2.08/ARB1/ARB2/ARB3/UFA
and prospects
Delvin Perez, SS, STL
Luis Ortiz, SP, MIL
Kyle Funkhouser, SP, DET
Brewers reasoning:
It's not often that a player of Turner's caliber is available. Once it was known he was on the block the Brewers knew they wanted to make a move for him having previously missed out on both Machado and Votto. Being able to get him without having to move an MLB position player was huge as the offense stays intact and can grow together for years to come.
Being able to get Sisco in the same deal was icing on the cake as he might be the Brewers catcher of the future. Current catcher Travis d'Arnaud is playing well but is currently hurt and has had durability issues in the past. Sisco is the top rated prospect in the Orioles system and may very well make his MLB debut in 2017.
The price to secure the services of Turner and Sisco was high, however. Pitcher Lance McCullers was the top SP on the Brewers roster and has been throwing really well this season. Ortiz was the organization's top pitching prospect (#57 overall according to MLB) and Perez has arguably the highest upside of any offensive prospect in the system (#86 overall). Although outside the top 100, Funkhouser was #6 in the Detroit system and could debut next year if he continues to develop.
The Brewers would like to thank Lance, Delvin, Luis and Kyle for their service to the organization and wish them well with their new team.
