The Colorado Rockies and the Cincinnati Reds meet in game one of a three game set in MLB action(mlb world series championship rings) from Great American Ballpark on Friday evening.
The Colorado Rockies will look to build some momentum and turn things around after salvaging a win against Washington to avoid the sweep with an 8-7 win on Thursday. Ryan McMahon had a home run and three RBIs while Daniel Murphy and Garrett Hampson each had a home run and two RBIs with Murphy going 3 for 5 with a double as well. Ian Desmond added a solo home run to round out Colorado’s scoring as a team in the win while Charlie Blackmon had a double and David Dahl and Jeff Hoffman each had a base hit as well in the victory. Hoffman allowed three runs on four hits while walking and whiffing four apiece over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jairo Diaz got the win to improve to 3-2 on the year while Wade Davis closed out the 9th for his 15th save of the season. German Marquez will start game one and is 9-5 with a 4.99 ERA and 133 strikeouts this season. This will be Marquez’s second career start against Cincinnati.
The Cincinnati Reds(Cincinnati Reds championship rings for sale) will look to bounce back after failing to complete the sweep of the Brewers, falling 5-4 in Wednesday’s series finale. Josh VanMeter led the charge, going 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs while Scooter Gennett and Joey Votto each had an RBI with Gennett adding a double to the cause as well. Phillip Ervin went 2 for 4 with a double of his own while Nick Senzel and Jose Iglesias each chipped in base hits in the defeat. Lucas Sims took the loss, falling to 1-1 on the year after allowing five runs on three hits while striking out five over 4.2 innings of work. Luis Castillo will start game one and is 9-3 with a 2.36 ERA and 138 strikeouts this season. This will be Castillo’s second career start against Colorado.
Colorado is 2-8 in their last 10 road games and 8-21 in their last 29 games overall while the under is 17-6-3 in their last 26 road games against a team with a losing record. Cincinnati is 16-7 in Castillo’s last 23 home starts and 1-5 in their last 6 home games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Colorado is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Like a lot of pitchers this season, Marquez has been a much better pitcher away from Coors Field than at home this season, to the point of having a 3.25 ERA on the road compared to an ERA over seven at home this season. However, Castillo has been one of the better home pitchers in all of baseball(championship sports rings) this season, with a 1.67 ERA and a miniscule .155 batting average against. The difference for me between the two sides is that the Rockies have fallen off in a major way since the beginning of the month, and I’m not getting enough plus money to consider them in a spot like this against the Reds’ ace. I’ll lay the juice with Cincinnati in this spot.
