Dear fellow fantasy baseball addicts,
it is time to announce the 2019 Moneyball All Star Teams.
Same as in 2017 my methodology is fairly simple. The players who scored the most points at their position until the ASB have been awarded with a place in their respective All Star team. If a player is eligible for multiple positions he is only considered for the position where he played the most games so far (e.g. Kris Bryant qulifies at 3B - not OF). As in real life there is no distinction between the three different outfield spots – otherwise Christian Yelich would have been left out of the starting lineupr in favor of Alex Verdugo what I found a little weird.
Rosters are adapted to the original All Star roster sizes with total points scored being the deciding factor for every position. 34 players per team with representatives of every organization. You can read more about the official All Star roster rules on (of course) Wikipedia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game

Some random notes:
> The Chicago Cubs send the most players to our fake All Star game with five young men from their championship team. No surprise here - but wait - the Cubbies are not alone with the Baltimore Orioles sending five representatives to Cleveland as well. I must confess that I heavily underrated the Orioles roster before I checked all the numbers. This is a great team. Cubs and Orioles are followed by the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies and the Boston Red Sox with each having four All Stars on their clubs. Of this bunch the Braves clearly stand out since their season has been underwhelming so far. But with an offense carried by 2019 All Stars Marte, Polanco, Rosario and Devers the future should be bright.
> When turning your attention from teams to players some names clearly exceed preseason expectations: Yasmani Grandal, Pete Alonso, Marcus Semien, Josh Bell, Ketel Marte and Cody Bellinger are suprises in their respective league´s starting lineup. Checking the long list of reserve players I initially stumbled upon Lance Lynn and Mike Minor. These starters provide exceptional value as well. I mean...Lance Lynn...come on!
> First Half Awards go to the following players:
NL MVP: Cody Bellinger
AL MVP: Mike Trout
NL CY Young: Max Scherzer
AL CY Young: Justin Verlander
NL ROY: Alex Verdugo
AL ROY: Pete Alonso
> The winner of this year´s Moneyball All Star Game is the National League squad with a score of 6:5 (I coded a special algorithm which led to this result...it´s super complex and I don´t want to bother you with the details). Congratulations!
That´s it for 2019´s All Star Game. I apologize for my German English and look forward to the second half of the season.
