After 3 days of back and forth the Cubs & D-Backs have agreed to the following trade...
The Cubs get: Cash considerations of... $5M in MLB Cap money $3M in IFA money D-Backs 2020 6.9 pick
The D-Backs get: Mariel Bautista, CF, Reds. 2019/0.62M Prospect
We felt this deal was a win for our organization as we sent our 6.9 pick, we are usually done by then or close to it; $5M in cap space, considering our record we are not likely buyers of any big contracts and we have more cap room than needed so we went with the use it or lose it philosophy; $3M in IFA money which we most likely would not have used anyway.
In return we received a prospect we feel could be as strong as any in our organization in a year or two. At 21 MLB has him as the Reds 18th ranked prospect, others have him ranked as high as #10. We feel if this deal turns out to not be what we are expecting, we are out next to nothing...but we are very confident in Mr. Bautistsa's talents...welcome to the desert young man!
Thanks to Josh and the Cubs for sticking with it through many, many offers to get this done.

Thanks for the deal Donnie! Bautista is a prospect I would have preferred to hold onto, but ultimately I’m trying to win this season and the extra cap space will provide me with some additional flexibility down the stretch. Best of luck to the Dbacks!
