Houston Astros Receive:
SS/2B/CF Trea Turner, Wash Nats '17 1.02, '18 2.04, '19 ARB1, '20 ARB 2, '21 ARB 3, '22 UFA
SP Bartolo Colon, Atlanta Braves '17 12.5, '18 UFA
Chicago White Sox Receive:
RF Kyle Tucker, Houston Astros '17 0.200 ML Deal
SP Chris Tillman, Baltimore Orioles '17 10.05, '18 UFA
SP Albert Abreu, New York Yankees '17 0.200 ML Deal
Houston trades top hitting prospect Kyle Tucker, solid Yankees starting prospect Albert Abreu, and Orioles top starter Chris Tillman to land the Nationals SS Trea Turner and old man river Bartolo Colon. Bringing in Turner gives us more flexibility in the roster and young immediate bat. Colon is well, Colon. He seems to defy time and logic. He churns out innings and helps fill the hole of Tillman leaving. Hopefully the big boy has 6 more months in him. Tucker to me is one of the top hitting prospects in all of the minors currently, and should be showcasing his smooth left handed stroke on an excellent Astros team within a few years. Abreu has the look to develop into a starter for the Yanks whose rotation greatly needs a youth infusion. Abreu can slot into that rotation if his upwards trend continues and be on a team that will be bursting with youth at multiple positions and salted with vets from the 2018 F/A class. Tillman is a steady vet who is hitting his prime. His arm is structurally sound and he should be back by mid May. When on his game he flirts with ace appeal.
Reasoning:
1. Chris Tillman- A very good sp that once he’s healthy will be the number one in Baltimore. The only issue here is that right now he is on the DL. By all news accounts his arm is structurally sound and will be back in this season. Once is his fully healthy, his trade value will rocket. He is also on a team friendly deal at 10m and can be simply resigned at 20m after the season is over. While 20m is a lot of cash, with the amount of free agent money after the year and a lot of teams having a lot of cap space, and judging by bidding happening on minor leaguers 20 million will probably be cheaper than if you resigned him in free agency.
Sp has great value in this league. Especially ones you can lock up at a price that isn’t 25+.
If Tillman did not have an injury, I doubt he would have fell as far as he did.
Tillman is a sp that has very good value moving forward to a team that can afford to wait like the White Sox or they can simply trade him for even more value in the future.
2. Kyle Tucker- One of the most exciting prospects in the minor leagues right now. He has all the tools to succeed and is a top 20 ranked prospect in Baseball America. He is probably 2 years out from MLB and he is already ranked very high and on an astro teams that has great hitters. I do not think I need to go into more detail. Most should know who this guy is.
3. Albert Abrue- Currently the NYY 10th prospect in the system. For a yankee teams that needs young arms Abrue should see the field as soon as he’s ready. He has a FB that is in the high 90s. Scouts are very high on him. During the Mcann trade with the Astros, the Yankees were excited to get him. Every baseball site and news are very high on Abrue and project him to be at least a top 3 rotation guy which makes this guy more valuable as he gets closer.
4. Trea Turner- A promising superstar in the making. Should be obvious.
5. Bartello Colon- Old pitcher of limited value. Who knows when he will retire or get hurt. only on a 1 year deal.
Reasons-
Astros reasons for trading the players. We were willing to give up a great sp, great hitting prospect, and a very solid sp prospect to get value now. In 2 years this deal would not happen remotely. We also drafted with sp in mind and Tillman for us is a piece that can be traded because of our sps.
The White Sox are getting 3 players one they can either use now or decide to trade when Tillman’s value is skyhigh, and 2 players they can build around in the future..
So what the Astros are giving up is a great sp that can be resigned or traded in the future, one of the top hitting prospects in baseball, and a solid sp prospect that will be in baseball Americas top 100 list by next year. The top 200 list one organization put out has Abrue 101.
We also based our offer on the Rizzo deal that happened.
Kyle Lewis is the 34th prospect, Kevin Newman 55, Aj puk 83 and Justin Bour.
Our deal Is Chris Tillman who is a great sp, Kyle Tucker the 19th prospect and abrue the 101st prospect.
It’s different but similar. My argument is that Tillman’s value is greater than Bours and the adjustment was made reflecting that. If you do not have good sp, It will be hard to win the league.
Good deal for both teams. You may not like the deal, many don’t agree with most of the deals that happen, but it is fair.
