The Management of the Mets and Rays would like to announce the following deal
The Mets receive:
Mike Clevinger, SP, CLE 18/4 19/ARB1 20/ARB2 21/ARB3 22/UFA
The Rays receive:
Jedd Gyorko, 3B, STL - 18/9 19/13 20/13(TO) 21/UFA
Eric Lauer, SP, SD - 0.2 - Prospect
The main reason for this trade is creating a young, deep and powerful rotation for 2018 and beyond. Clevinger had a good 2017 and should be a solid pitcher going forward. Gyorko was obtained by the Brewers in order to ship him to Tampa Bay right away in a kind of a three team deal. Nothing persona, Jedd - just business. Eric Lauer was added to the offer to sweeten the deal and compensate for the salary side of the deal.
We thank the Rays management for the pleasant trade talks and wish Jedd and Eric a great time in beautiful Florida. We will especially follow EricĀ“s career closely since he was the organizationĀ“s top pitching prospect for a long time.
Welcome to the big apple, Mike!

Needed to make this trade to fill my open 3B position. I have a lot of SP so was willing to trade Clevinger who has a good contract but was able to get another young SP who comes up in a year or two. Thanks to the Mets for some good trade talks Im sure this won't be our last time.
