This trade signals a pretty big shift for the Cubs. I spent much of last season making moves geared towards the near-future. I built both mlb and minor league depth with a trade like this in mind once my team was ready to contend. This was a very steep price to pay including both MLB and loads of good minor league talent all still either in the TC portion of their contracts or pre-TC for prospects; but MadBum could an X-factor game-changer for my team.
I set my sights on and SP1 to team up with Severino at the top of my rotation and compliment my deep offense. MadBum fills that role perfectly and makes him worth the cost to my team depth right now. I feel like this trade makes the Cubs a legit contender.
Thanks for the deal to Dave and his Marlins. It was a pleasure negotiating and the Cubs looks forward to more trades in the future between our teams. Best of luck!

Marlins accepts.
When I arrived in Miami I was looking at a team that was close. But lacked the depth required to endure a season of injuries. While this deal signals a shift in the Marlins outlook for 2018, we still expect to field a competetive team, and the future is getting bright.
We have gained positional flexibility and depth at both the Major league and minor league level. With loads of controllable assets with some bigtime upside.
Madison Bumgarner will be remembered fondly by the Miami faithful. With any luck his greatest contribution to the organization has come with his departure.
We wish the Cubs the best of luck. Negotiations were enjoyable. Open and honest assesments of the players involved. A strong opening offer signalled that this was a team that is serious about winning and was willing to pay the price.
To each of the newest members of the organization. Chris Taylor Daniel Norris Doug Fister Brandon Marsh Christin Stewart Tristen Lutz Zac Lowther Cole Stobbe and Greg Ellis Welcome to Miami, we're gonna party.
