After a quick negotiation the Marlins & D-Backs have agreed to the following trade...
Marlins get: Ryan Pepiot, RP, Rays 2024/0.5M 2025/0.75M 2026/1M 2027/ARB1 2028/ARB2 2029/ARB3 2030/UFA Lenyn Sosa, 2B, White Sox 2024/0.75M 2025/1M 2026/ARB1 2027/ARB2 2028/ARB3 2029/UFA
D-Backs get: Andrew Heaney, SP, Rangers 2024/12M 2025/10M 2026/8M 2027/UFA Gabriel Arias, 1B/SS/RF, Guardians 2024/0.75M 2025/1M 2026/ARB1 2027/ARB2 2028/ARB3 2029/UFA Enmanuel Valdez, SS, Red Sox 2024/0.75M 2025/1M 2026/ARB1 2027/ARB2 2028/ARB3 2029/UFA
The D-Backs had no intention of trading Pepiot, but the counter from the Marlins made us have to consider it. While we hate losing him, in part because he is inexpensive and controllable we like the idea of adding a proven SP that wasn't ridiculously expensive, as well as Arias who could possibly be our SS for many years to come. Giving Sosa for Valdez as an addition to the counter was more a matter of personal preference as they are statistically almost the same player at this point in their careers. Overall, this was a very even trade...the way more should be!
Thanks to Lance for the quick negotiation and the deal. Good luck this season!

Marlins agree to deal. As stated wasn't something initially thought to be looking at but considering who the Dbacks were looking at tried to come up with a fair counter to get a guy at pitcher who could potentially solidify the rotation for a good bit at a cheaper rate than we had Heaney at the next couple years. 2nd basemen are a coin flip here so really losing some depth at multiple positions with Arias but hoping Pepiot is the real deal and TB doesn’t only let him throw 4 innings every start… Thanks Donne and good luck!
