Reds & Cubs completed a 3 player trade today.
Reds acquire 1B Anthony Rizzo (w/50% salary coverage / $11.42m from Cubs for 2024) (TO $32.63/25) & SS Kyren Paris
in exchange Reds send SP Michael Wacha $1.75/24, $1.75/25, FA/26
Reds are looking for more proven option at 1B and anticipate large bidding in the remaining 1B free agents this year.
Really like Michael Wacha profile and contract (plus extension pricing), but will try to add SP in free agency and trade.
This trade took a lot of haggling as Reds were wanting some additional prospect capital, but we ended up settling on this deal.
Hoping that Paris may sneak into some playing time at an always short supply SS position.
