The Brewers and D-Backs would like to announce a trade!
Brewers trade:
D-Backs trade:
AZ had been after Cruz for a bit but we hadn't talked about JT before last night and things came together rather quickly. Turner and Cruz have been a big part of my success this season, but there was one huge problem with them--their expiring contracts and the fact that they would be too costly to re-sign next year (at least for me anyway, at a cost of $38M and $25M respectively). I knew if I kept them I'd make the playoffs and then die because my pitching has been decimated. This move is a calculated risk that this deal, combined with the one I made with ATL, will provide me sufficient opportunity to still make the playoffs this year, gain assets to help me next year, and not just let Turner and Cruz walk for nothing. I had offers of good prospects for these two but I felt getting MLB assets to help me now was a better move for my team than pinning some hopes on a few good prospects I'll maybe see in a few years.
Hanser's flexibility will allow me to move Whit to the OF when needed and Miguel will be re-signed after the season and is a more than capable MLB SS. Puig can at that point hopefully fill the void of Conforto and Grichuk will be a capable 4th or 5th OF, if not more.
All in all, I like this move as it was kind of the best of both worlds, still allows me to hopefully reach the playoffs this season but also position me will for next year as well.
Thanks to the D-Backs for the back and forth and eventual deal. Also thanks to the Twins and Marlins as we had a lot of talks too. Sorry it didn't work out for you two but I felt this was best for my team in the short term.
Best of luck to you all.
