In a blockbuster deal, Dodgers send:
Bobby Witt Jr. (.3) Nick Madrigal (.3) Joey Cantillo (.2) Arol Vera (.2) and Gunnar Henderson (.25) $2 in IFA (Eliminate IFA from this deal - $2 IFA $$ going to Padres in separate deal).
to Padres for:
Ozzie Albies (2020/$1; 2021/Arb1; 2022/Arb2; 2023/Arb3)
While Dodgers are giving up a lot of talent, the potential to make a big deal for an impact player was the reason we acquired 3 of top 4 picks in the draft this year. Although Madrigal looks to have solid hit tool that will play well for the ChiSox in their youth movement, acquiring Albies (seemingly the top remaining player on the block) will help Dodgers make other moves to fill other areas of needs. Witt seems to have the talent to be a 5-tool player at some point in the next 2 years, but Dodgers were looking for bats to win and be competitive each year.
Joey Cantillo looks solid, as does Arol Vera, but again, those players seem at least a year or more away.
The wild card here was Gunnar Henderson. With Orioles lacking an impact SS since Manny Machado left town, Henderson could be the future 6 for the O's for years to come. Again, though, Dodgers immediate needs play over 2-3 years down the road.
The splash of $2 international FA $$ going to Padres was THE piece that pushed this deal across the finish line.
Thanks to Padres GM Dan for working on this one over the last 24 hours. Best of luck to Padres and their new acquisitions!

Tough to give up a star in Albies - but my competition window is a few years out, and hopefully one or multiple pieces of this deal can blossom into a star when that window opens.
Thanks LAD for easy negotiations... good luck
