Mets trade:
Stephen Strasburg, SP, FA - 20M 2020/18M 2021/15M 2022/32M 2023/UFA 2024
Dodgers trade:
Madison Bumgarner, SP, FA - 14.0625M 2020/14.0625M 2021/14.0625M 2022/14.0625M 2023/TO 28.13M 2024/UFA 2025
Hunter Renfroe, OF, SD - 1.84M 2020/ARB2 20201
Tyler Mahle, SP, CIN - 1M 2020/1M 2021/ARB1 2022
Sometimes you have to do something unorthodox in life and in fantasy baseball in order to succeed. I did so by trading Stephen Strasburg who was easily my best player last year. Throughout his career he has neven been real bad (although injured often) and has cemented himself among the few true aces in MLB. But you have to give to get.
The fake Mets try to build sustainable success for years to come and I believe this can be obtained by collecting a deep collection of young MLB players. Not star level but talented. Mahle and Renfroe fit this mold. Only 24 years old Mahle had some real good outings already in the show with room to grow and Renfroe was on the way to a breakout season before being derailed by injuries around the all star break last season. If he can build on 2019´s first half and cut his strikeouts he can become the productive middle of the order homerun monster that my team lacked in last year´s campaign.
The third and decisive piece of the trade package is Madison Bumgarner. Not the ace he once was but still a pretty good pitcher working deep into games. His significant home/road splits are cause for concern though so I it will be interesting to see where he signs this offseason. He will take over Stephen´s spot in the Mets rotation.
We thank the Dodgers GM for the strong initial offer ad this ultra quick trade and wish Stephen lots of success on the west coast.
Welcome to the boys in orange and blue, Madison, Hunter and Tyler and as always let´s go Mets!
