After a few days of back and forth the Dodgers & D-Backs have pulled the trigger on the following deal...
D-Backs get: Dodgers 1st round pick #9 in 2020 (originally owned by D-Backs) Ryan Vilade, SS, Rockies. 2019/0.25M Prospect Jake Woodford, SP, Cardinals. 2019/0.2M Prospect Connor Hollis 3B Rays. 2019/0.2M Prospect
Dodgers get: The following 2020 draft picks 1.2, 2.9, 8.9, 9.9, 10.9
We felt this was an opportunity to hold our draft a little early and get a couple prospects that will be up in a year or two rather than the usually long wait on maybe/maybe not draft picks. We gave up the 1.2 and 2.9 to get Vilade, Woodford and the 1.9 (keeping us in the top 1/3 of the 1st round). We felt we probably would not use the 8-10 rounds and they don't have much trade value so asked for Hollis to be thrown in.
Vilade is a very solid hitter who is at high A and we expect him to start moving quickly up the ladder and could well be our SS of the future. Woodford is at AAA now and pitching fairly well...could use a few less BB, but otherwise we see him possibly being up next season. To us Hollis was more than just a throw in, the kid has some talent and could turn into an average 3B in the bigs...not everyone can be a stud, you need those average guys too! All in all if we had waited we might have received a little better return, but we are happy with the guys and 1st round pick we got.
Thanks to the Dodgers for hanging in the negotiations so we could get it done!

Dodgers accept this deal to give us opportunity to revamp the minors system with our own picks.
Picking up pick 1.2 was key for our draft strategy, along with an additional top half 2nd round pick, and 3 more picks at the back end of the draft.
Giving up Vilade was tough, but opportunity to get 1.2 and control 2 of 4 top picks was worth giving up Vilade. Although Woodford is at AAA and a Cards top 30, with 5 SPs signed for a few years, it was worth the 2.9 and Hollis the additional 3 draft picks.
Thanks to DBacks for working through this deal and sticking with it.
Best of luck with Vilade and Woodford.
