Mariners trade Santana and cover 25% of his 2019 salary in exchange for
Zach Britton and Sam Carlson
I have a log jam at 1st base and I'm not convinced Santana can maintain the consistency he's shown to start the year. I have a need at RP and can build up the farm with Carlson who should be a nice bullpen piece in the next year or two.

Dodgers confirm.
In our opinion, Santana is an OBP machine in the heart of Cleveland's lineup. With Mariners picking up 25% of 2019 salary his cost is worth it for next 3 years.
While losing Britton's solid performances may hurt, Betances is beating a return to Yankees bullpen and I was concerned it would impact Britton's opportunies. Shedding his 6.75 salary makes Santana a worthwhile investment, even though Carlson had to be included to get the deal done.
Santana - 2019/$36(Mariners picking up 25%); 2020/$24; 2021/$24; 2020 UFA
For
Britton - 2019/$6.75; 2020/$6.75; 2021/$6.75 Carlson - .2/minors

Thanks to a Mariners GM for the quick deal and best of luck the rest of the way.
