The St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet up on the MLB(mlb world series championship rings) diamond to kick off their series on Tuesday.
St. Louis(St.Louis Cardinals championship rings) is coming off a weekend series versus the Braves. The Cardinals managed a victory on Saturday in that set but dropped Friday 5-2 and Sunday 4-3. For the Tuesday game, St. Louis will be sending out Adam Wainwright in the start. Over his 52.1 innings and 4-4 record this year, Wainwright has a 4.82 ERA with 41 Ks and 23 BBs. Over on the Phillies’ side, they finished up against the Brewers this weekend. Philadelphia managed wins 6-4 Friday and 7-2 Saturday, but failed to get the sweep with a 9-1 loss Sunday.
Philadelphia(Philadelphia Phillies championship rings) will be going with Nick Pivetta in the start Tuesday. Across 18.1 innings and a 2-1 record, Pivetta has an 8.35 ERA with 16 Ks and eight walks. The Cardinals are 11-3 in their last 14 Tuesday games and 20-8 in Wainwright’s last 28 Tuesday starts. St. Louis is 2-5 in Wainwright’s last seven road starts and 43-21 in his last 64 starts versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 4-0 in their last four in game one of a series and 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games. Philadelphia is 4-9 in Pivetta’s last 13 starts and 6-2 in his last eight versus the NL Central(cheap championship rings). Overall, Wainwright has been okay this year, but he’s certainly had his share of stinker games. In three of his last four, Wainwright has allowed at least three earned runs and is sporting a 1-2 record during that time. Pivetta, meanwhile, has coughed up at least three earned in all four of his 2019 starts and hasn’t gone past 5.0 innings in any of them (yet somehow still has a winning record).
In any case, I’m not thrilled with either pitcher here but I’m going to take the lesser of two evils in Wainwright and the Cardinals.
