The Brewers and Mets have agreed to the following deal:
The Brewers receive:
- Wil Myers, LF/CF, SD - 19/$1.5 20/$20 21/$20 22/$20 23/$20(TO) 24/UFA
- Jharel Cotton, SP, OAK - 19/$1.02 TC3
- Elehuris Montero, 3B, STL - $0.2 prospect
The Mets receive:
- Nick Castellanos, RF, DET - 19/$4.5 20/$4.5 21/$4.5 22/$6.75 23/$6.75 24/$10.13(TO) 25/UFA
This trade was made a bit out of necessity and a bit out of long-term need. With Calhoun on the IL I didn't have another viable option at LF and long-term I don't have a CF (assuming Whit doesn't qualify there next year). The long-term salary may end up being a problem in a shrinking-cap league, but we'll cross that bridge when we need to. Wil is a better player than his season stats indicate but the same could be said of Nick. We have both Puig and Martinez than can play at RF so we're not necessarily taking a hit there.
We like Montero's long-term potential and Cotton has shown flashes in the past and is about to embark on a rehab assignment as the final step coming back from TJS.
We're pleased to add all three players to our organization and want to thank Nick for the contributions he's had on our club. Best of luck to him with his new team.
Thanks to the Mets for the deal.

The New York Mets accept this trade.
This deal is mostly about saving payroll for future years without sacrificing talent at the MLB level for the 2019 title run. Myers and Castellanos are quite similar players in terms of talent and age with Nick having the much team friendlier contract. Of course he will also give me a strong longterm solution in RF (other than current RF Jason Heyward).
Wil Myers was kind of expendable because I have plenty of LF eligible players on my current roster (Nimmo, Dickerson, Goodrum, McNeil). In order to balance the difference in salaries I had to include Jarel Cotton as a young and controllable SP and one of my top prospects Elehuris Montero. It hurts to let them go but it was necessary to make this a fair trade.
I would like to thank the Brewers GM for the smooth negotiations and wish Wil, Elehuris and Jarel all the best with their new organization.
Welcome to NY Nick and as always - let´s go Mets!
