The New York Yankees and Los Angles Dodgers agree to the following trade:
LAD receives:
John Lester, SP, CHC - 2019/17.5m - 2020/15m - 2021/25m TO - The Yankees will retain 50% of Lester salary for 2019 season only
NYY receives:
JB Bukauskas, SP, HOU - 2019/ 0.3m - minors
The Yankees accept this trade to bring a top prospect like JB to our team. Giving up an Opening Day Top Arm in Lester is tough, especially being on a good team IRL, but to us it makes sense to alleviate 2 issues - 1. It gives us cap space - 2. It lowers our SP count at the MLB. We also were probably looking at this year and next for Lester as we probably would not have exercised the TO in 2021. We look forward to possibly having JB and Josh James in our rotation at the same time there at in Houston IRL, it will be a nice back to back punch!!

Dodgers made this deal to bring in another top flight SP to go along with Gerrit Cole. NYY willingness to eat half of Lester's salary this year was a primary factor in dealing a young arm in Bukauskas who may find his way into the Astros rotation at the end of the year.
Best of luck to the NYY and their new live arm.
