Dodgers trade:
Javier Baez ($7.48/2019; $11.22/2020-2023; $16 TO/2024) plus max cap Lewis Brinson ($1 TC3) Raimel Tapia (.2)
for
Gleyber Torres ($1 TC2)
For Dodgers (as a Yankees fan), this deal was about acquiring one of top up and coming 2B in the game. With Didi out until mid-summer and the Tulowitzki experiment, Gleyber may end up acquiring SS eligibility for 2020 as well. Giving up Brinson (who, although only a year in, didn't hit his weight) and a likely role-playing Tapia in 2019 were peripheral pieces in the deal. After acquiring Torres, Dodgers GM will exercise better financial judgment for the short and long term success of the franchise.

Thanks for the deal Justin. Just to clarify, Baez has max salary coverage of 50% in 2019 and 25% each year afterwards. And Tapia’s contract is currently $1 in TC2. He can remain in the minors on my team for now.
As much as this deal received a bit of criticism, it took us 2 or 3 days to negotiate. I had no real intention of trading Torres after acquiring him earlier this offseason since I think he’s going to be a stud hitting at Yankee Stadium in a crazy potent Yankee lineup. Torres’ $1 contract in TC2 is extra valuable considering the stud MLB production he should provide for 3 more seasons before getting paid a salary of any consequence. He’s often ranked in the top 25ish on dynasty rankings since he’s just 22 and has superstar upside.
But I’ll trade anyone for the right price. So when Justin came asking about Torres, my price was set at Baez plus another legit piece or two that we’d need to work on. We went back and forth on the additional pieces for a couple days, but eventually settled on Tapia and Brinson. I like the fact both these guys are cheap with potential for solid upside. Depth will be key for my team to make another deep playoff run this year.
Thanks again to Justin for fun negotiations and best of luck with your new star 2B/SS.
