The Brewers and Dodgers would like to announce a trade! Going to the Dodgers: - Ryan Zimmerman, 1B, WAS - 19/$18 20/$18(TO) 21/UFA
Going to the Brewers:
- Mitch Moreland, 1B, BOS - 19/$18 20/$18 21/$27(TO) 22/UFA
This is a rather unspectacular deal and on many levels a lateral move. The reason we made this deal is Zimmerman's very real injury risk. He's played more than 115 games just once in the past 5 seasons. Moreland, on the other hand, has played in fewer than 124 games just once in the past 6 seasons. The per game performance is rather equal, and either can go on an extended tear at any time.
We're pleased to be adding someone of Mitch's caliber to our clubhouse and wish Ryan nothing but the best with his new team.
Thanks to the Dodgers GM for the deal and best of luck this year.

Dodgers accepted this deal... While this deal made financial sense for the Dodgers in an exchange of 1B players, and Zimmerman rakes when healthy, the primary motivation in moving Moreland was to rid our franchise of Red Sox players... an $18 contract with risk was certainly worth moving a likely more reliable 1B.
Thanks to the Brewers GM for making this deal happen!
Best of luck to Brewers in a tough NL Central.
