ATL TRADES
J Flaherty STL 1, 1, Arb1, Arb2, Arb3, UFA A Mccutchen PHI 9, 9, 9, 9, UFA P O’Brien MIA 0.5 UFA
TOR TRADES
N Mazara Tex 2.04, ARB 1, ARB 2, ARB3 UFA R Guzman Tex 1, 1, ARB1, ARB2, ARB3, UFA R Borucki Tor 1, 1, Arb1, Arb2, Arb3, UFA J Carlos Encarnacion BAL prospect
Tough deal to make. I love Flaherty but I needed some offense. Mazara is a guy I think is ready to break out. I also like Guzman who is off to a real nice start this spring. (Yes off guys that will be bagging groceries but still) Borucki is a young arm I don’t hate but with recent Additions he may be on the outside looking in for a spot in the rotation so that hurts. Mccutchen is obviously still solid at this point in his career but he helps me gain some cap space also. Overall I knew the Jays wanted a young arm and had plenty of offense to spare.

Flaherty was obviously the key for me..I’ve got plenty of offence and plenty more coming with guys like Tatis and Vlad Jr. Adding some potential ace level pitching is my main need and getting young controllable talent is obviously hard to come by. I think Mazara is due for a huge breakout one of these years but having Acuna, Odubel, Polanco, F. Reyes and adding Cutch with more prospects coming I’ve got plenty to cover my OF spots and with Hoskins locked in at 1B for the foreseeable future Guzman was expendable as well. Being a Jays fan Borucki was hard to part with after watching him progress thru the system but at the end of the day adding an arm like Flaherty was just too much to resist. Best of luck to the Braves.
