Brewers get: Caleb Ferguson, RP, Dodgers. 2019/1M 2020/2M 2021/ARB1 Kyle Cody, SP, Rangers. 2019/0.4M prospect John Rooney, SP/RP, Dodgers. 2019/0.2M prospect Michael Grove, SP/RP, Dodgers. 2019/0.25M prospect Travis Lakins, RP, Red Sox. 2019/0.2M prospect Miguel Amaya, C, Cubs. 2019/0.2M prospect
In an effort to attain some MLB talent without paying through the nose in FA, we have used some of our farm system to acquire Harrison Bader, who will feel will continue to get better after a solid rookie campaign. He should be a very solid addition to our outfield. Justin Bour was a piece that gives us some depth. He will never hit for average, but should add around 20 long balls for us. The other thing with Bour, even though he will split time at 1B, should give way to Thaiss no later than 2020. He makes a perfect bridge for our team.
We will hate to see the prospects leave. Especially Ferguson, who will one day be a quality SP in the bigs.
We wish Caleb, Kyle, John, Michael, Travis, and Miguel the best in their new home.
Thank you to Jerry and the Brewers for sticking with the negotiations till we could make this happen!

The Brewers accept.
This is a trade made with the future in mind. Bader could have very well been a long-term piece, yes. However, we traded him to reel in 6 prospects we really like and think will be big pieces of our team down the line. We acquired Bour last year hoping he'd be our 1B for some time but he seems to have fallen out of favor in the bigs. Moving on from him is not a big deal. He looks to be a platoon player at best going forward. We were wrong in our analysis of him.
Ferguson was great during his 2018 debut and we thing he'll eventually slide into the rotation. That hope was a big impetus for this deal. We think Lakins will debut soon, possibly this year, and he's put up great stats in the minors. Cody is recently back from injury and was lights-out upon his return. Rooney and Grove were drafted this year in the first-year player draft but had excellent seasons in their first taste of pro ball. We are excited to see what 2019 hold for all three of them. Amaya is already one of the top catching prospects in the minors. We are pleased to add him to our team and look forward to his continued development.
Thanks to the negotiations with the Diamondbacks and best of luck to them in 2019.
