Mets trade:
Jared Kelenic, OF, 0.3 (Prospect)
David Peterson, SP, 0.3 (Prospect)
Simeon Woods-Richardson, 0.2 (Prospect)
Giants trade:
Wil Myers, 3B/LF, 3M 2019/20M 2020/20M 2021/20M 2022/TO 20 2023/UFA
> Giants cover 50% of 2019 salary (1.5M)
Justin Turner, 3B, 18M 2019/19M 2029/UFA
> Giants cover 50% of 2019 salary (9M)
Jharel Cotton, SP, 2.04 2019/ARB1 2020/ARB2 2021/ARB3 2022/UFA
The battle for the NL East crown is shaping up to be a bloodbath this year with the Braves being very agressive (and successful) on the trade market and the Phillies being the defending champion with lots of their core players remaining on the club. That being said I decided to trade my best prospects for some quality depth at MLB level in order to keep up with these two power houses.
Kelenic is the headliner of my package with many scouts seeing superstar potential in him. Peterson is the real life Mets top pitching prospects with a very good chance of becoming a solid contributor in MLB as soon as 2020. Woods-Richardson is some years away but has vowed the scouting community last year with a high velocity fastabll and a wicked slider at a very young age.
In return we welcome some veteran presence at 3b with Justin Turner. Another piece is Wil Myers who had a down year but who is someone who can always make some impact with his combination of speed and power. Last but not least Jharel Cotton is included who is recovering from TJS at the moment and who was a solid albeit inconsistent pitcher at MLB level. It remains to be seen how he will come out of this whole Thommy John thing.
We thank the Giants GM for this ultra quick trade and wish Jared, David and Simeon lots of success in their future career.
Welcome to the boys in orange and blue, Will, Justin and Jharel and as always let´s go Mets!
