After a good bit of negotiation the Phillies & D-Backs have agreed to the following trade...
Phillies get:
David Hess, SP, Orioles. 2019/1M 2020/2M 2021/ARB1 - ARZ is paying .5M of Hess's salary in 2019
Nicholas Lopez, SS, Royals. 2019/0.4M prospect
Adam Haseley, CF, Phillies. 2019/0.3M prospect
D-Backs are also sending $5M in cap space to Phillies.
D-Backs get:
Julio Teheran, SP, Braves. 2019/11M 2020/TO 12M 2021/UFA
Lolo Sanchez, CF, Pirates. 2019/1.7M prospect
Michael Grove, SP, Dodgers. 2019/0.25M prospect
The D-Backs once again have found a way to use pieces from their farm system to upgrade the MLB roster. It wasn't in the plans to move Hess, Lopez and Haseley, but they felt they couldn't pass up the opportunity to add a quality SP in Teheran. He has been somewhat of a tough luck pitcher through the years, but most on his peripherals have been good and now with the retooled lineup in Atlanta the wins should improve also. His contract is very reasonable and at 27 years old, will be extended. The move of Haseley & Lopez hurt a bit after working so hard to acquire them recently. But, to help the farm we added Lolo Sanchez, an up and coming, although very young, outfielder along with Michael Grove, an excellent pitching prospect coming off of TJ but should be ready to go this year.
All in all we felt if we were going to improve in a tough division, it was a move we needed to make.
Thanks to the Phillies management for hanging in the negotiations and being willing to find a middle ground. Hopefully this deal works out well for both teams.
