The Yankees and D-Backs have agreed to the following trade...
Yankees get: Johan Oviedo, SP, Cardinals. 2019/0.5M prospect
D-Backs get: Ronny Rodriguez, 2B/SS, Tigers. 2019/1M 2020/2M 2021/ARB1
For the D-Backs Oviedo became expendable earlier in the day when we picked up 2 other pitching prospects. This allowed us to use him for IF depth, and Rodriguez could be the starting SS in Detroit with them dead in the middle of a rebuild. Rodriguez, 27, came up in the Cleveland Organization, so we have seen him for years and know he can hit with everyday at bats.
We wish Johan the best in NY.
Thanks to the Yankees management for making this deal quick and easy!

The New York Yankees accept this trade to add to our pitching prospects, while moving a middle infielder where we already have depth.
We like Oviedo's ETA for MLB is 2021/2022, this will give him time to develop while our veteran SP hold the fort. Let's face it the real life Red Birds seem to always breed top pitchers so the Yanks would be happy with that outcome here. At 6'6" 210 he definitely has the size to be a power pitcher, time will tell!
While we are sorry to see Ronny Rodriguez go, we already have depth at middle infield, and we are really not sure what role he will play on a rebuilding Detroit team, or if he even stays with the team long term. With this in mind we decided it made sense to move Ronny now, to see if we can cash in on a pitching prospect in the future.
All the best to you Ronny in Arizona!
As always it was a pleasure dealing with the AZ management team, here is to a good deal on both ends!
