The D-Backs and Yankees have agreed to the following deal...
Yankees get: Kelvin Gutierrez, 3B, Royals. 2019/.4M Prospect Ken Giles, RP, Blue Jays. 2019/4.77M 2020/4.77M 2021/4.77M 2022/4.77M 2023/TO 7.16M 2023/UFA
D-Backs get: Johan Camargo, 3B/SS, Braves. 2019/11.2M 2020/ARB1
The D-Backs are again trying to build a little offense. Camargo hits too well for the Braves to keep him out of the lineup even with their addition of Donaldson. The Braves are saying they will use him much like Marwin Gonzalez was last year (145 games), that was acceptable to us. His dual qualification helped with our decision to spend the money on him. Gutierrez will be missed as he is a very solid 3B prospect and not far from being up. Giles will be missed in our BP.
Thanks to the Yankees management for making the negotiations fun and for the deal.

The New York Yankees accept this trade on the grounds:
It helps improve our Bullpen with Giles who has the Blue Jays Closer Job and despite a high ERA he had an overall solid year - 26 for 26 in save chances. His age a raw talent translate to him being an affordable closer for the extent of his contract, also I sure he will have a little more luck this year and in the future - his ERA was ballooned by a few really bad outings, but as we said earlier overall a solid year.
Also Gutierrez is a decent prospect who can possibly replace Camargo as early as this year. It seems he picked it up once traded to KC, and there really is not much standing in his way at the MLB level in KC.
As much as we like Camargo, who had a killer season for coming out of nowhere, we would have a hard time extending his contract in ARB do to the way the contract was originally structured. So looking at it that way we figured we would only have him for 2019 and then have to let him hit free agency, we figured we get some return on him now.
D'Backs are getting a player with some nice production that should definitely make their lineup more competitive immediately!!
Thanks for a fair and enjoyable negotiation process D'Backs.....Be great to see this deal workout great for both of us!!
