COL Trades: Paul Goldschmidt, 1B ARI-- 11, 16.5, 16.5, 16.5, 16.5, TO 24.75, UFA Christian Arroyo - 3B TB--0.5, 1, 2, ARB1, ARB2, ARB3, UFA
CHC Trades: Josh Bell, 1B PIT --1, 2, ARB1, ARB2, ARB3, UFA Ryan McMahon, 3B COL --0.5, 1, 2, ARB1, ARB2, ARB3, UFA
German Marquez, SP COL -- 1, 2, ARB1, ARB2, ARB3, UFA Brent Rooker--LF MIN--Prospect
It was really hard to trade Goldy as he was a big part of a pretty strong offense. But if I am going to have a chance at competing for a championship I will also need some better pitching and some better depth--and this trade accomplishes that. While Bell is a downgrade from Goldy he was pretty strong as a rookie with good power and his high contact rate would make think he has a good chance to get better. McMahon had, by all measures, and incredible season in the minors last year and from the early spring results looks to be the leader in the 1B competition for the Rockies--he will also have 3b eligibility for at least this season which is a bonus. In any case he should be a strong back-up for 3B and 1B. Marquez gets me the SP I need, he is still in TC and is only 23. Rooker is a strong looking prospect that will hopefully be contributing in a couple of years. If I was going to trade a top player it was going to take a deal made my team stronger and increased my depth and this team does both of those.

Agreed, thanks for the deal Danny. The Cubs are officially all-in for the championship this year. I agree with Danny's analysis and I especially liked both Bell and McMahon. I'd held onto Bell pretty tight through a number of inquiries on him from team across the league after his real solid rookie season and with his valuable TC2 contract. He was a big part of my future plans, but he was necessary to get this deal done. I've always been a big McMahon fan and actually drafted him in the initial draft last year. Surprisingly enough, I've previously traded and reacquired him twice over the past year. His value could really sky-rocket is he can grab hold of the Rockies starting 1B job this season. It hurts to lose him again, but he was a necessary piece to make this happen. I'd recently acquired Marquez since I liked his upside and contract, but I've got rotation depth and he was expendable to make a big move like this. Rooker can really mash but he's a couple years away and I wouldn't let him hold this up.
With Rizzo already holding down 1B, Goldy wasn't a specific target of mine. But consistent top 10 superstar bats don't grow on trees and are very tough to find in a league this deep; so I needed to make the move as long as it could get it done without creating any gaping new holes in my starting lineup. I'm all in for this season and Goldy should be a nice boost to my chances. He's signed longterm for a very reasonable contract as well. Arroyo had a tough go in the bigs last season but he can flat out hit as evidenced by his almost .400 BA in limited AAA at bats last season. He should have a very good chance to lockdown the 3B position with the rebuilding Rays and provide some depth for my team. Getting him into the deal softens the blow on giving up so much top young cheap talent on my end of the trade.
Best of luck to the Rockies!
