The Brewers and Nationals would like to announce a trade! The Brewers receive: - Brandon Drury, 2B, ARI - 18/2.04 19/ARB1 20/ARB2 21/ARB3 22/UFA
The Nationals receive:
- Oscar de la Cruz, SP, CHC - 0.2 prospect
- Yasmany Tomas, LF, ARI - 18/10 19/15.5 20/17 21/UFA
- The Brewers will cover 5 in 18, 2.5 in each 19 and 20
The Brewers have been looking for a long-term 2B since dealing away DJ. Yes, we had Castro for a short minute but he wasn't in our long-term plans. We like what Drury has to offer--he's young, still under TC, plays in a great ballpark/offense and will be ready to talk about an extension next year.
Oscar is currently the top prospect in the Cubs organization and looks to have significant upside. Always hard to give up young arms but this prospect was the least painful for us to give up given the names that were exchanged.
Tomas had an injury-filled season last year but is just a year removed from hitting 30+ HR. We have a lot of good OF prospects in the minors so Tomas was not in our long-term plans either. His salary is a bit elevated so we had to cover some salary to close the deal.
Best of luck to Oscar, Yasmany and the Nats. Thanks to the Nats GM for the deal.
Welcome to the Brew Crew, Brandon!

I had a hole in LF and I am hoping Whit Merrifield continues his success as my 2B.
