The Brewers and Cubs would like to announce a trade! The Brewers receive: - Austin Riley, 3B, ATL - 0.2 prospect
- Matt Manning, SP, DET - 0.2 prospect
- Cameron Bishop, SP, BAL - 0.2 prospect
- John Curtiss, RP, MIN - 0.2 prospect
- Ramon Torres, 2B/SS, KC - 0.5/18 1/19 2/20 ARB1/21 ARB2/22 ARB3/23 UFA/24
The Cubs receive:
- Brad Peacock, SP/RP, HOU - 1.62/18 2.43/19 2.43/20 2.43/21 2.43/22 3.65(TO)/23 UFA/24
- Starlin Castro, 2B, MIA - 7/18 8/19 16(TO)/20 UFA/21
- Brewers to pay 25% in 2018 and 2019 (1.75 and 2, respectively)
The rationale for the Brewers is easy, we're in rebuild mode and continue to amass young, cheap talent. All of these prospects have considerable upside. Torres was added in to fill an infield roster spot.
It was hard to give up Peacock after extending him with his upside, but his role is up in the air. He'll be a steal if he makes the rotation, but we had to make the move for the young upside. Starlin had a career year and we wanted to cash in.
Welcome to the Brew Crew, Austin, Matt, Cameron, John and Ramon! Best of luck to Brad and Starlin.
Thanks to the Cubs for the deal.

Peacock was great in the Astros rotation for the 2nd half of last season. I’m hoping he can continue that success in the rotation again this season and if so, he’ll be a hell of a bargain with his cheap contract extension. Castro with some salary covered was a good fit for my team with a hole at 2B after Segura lost his 2B eligibility for this season. Manning and Riley both have loads of potential and they were especially tough to part with here, but the return of talent that can boost my MLB lineup for this season and beyond was hopefully worth it.
Thanks to the Brew Crew for the deal. Best of luck!
