The Brewers GM got things kicked off at the Winter Meetings by completing a deal with the Dodgers. After several failed attempts at deals this past season they were finally able to reach an agreement. The Brewers receive: - Yasmani Grandal, C, LAD - 18/11 19/UFA
- Tyler Beede, SP, SF - 0.2 minors
- Matt Thaiss, 1B, LAA - 0.2 minors
- Jorge Ona, OF, SD - 0.2 minors
The Dodgers receive:
- Tyler Glasnow, SP, PIT - 18/1.02 19/2.04 20/ARB1 21/ARB2 22/ARB3 23/UFA
- Albert Abreu, SP, NYY - 0.2 minors
- Jake Woodford, SP, STL - 0.2 minors
The Brewers were thin at the catcher position and acquiring Grandal should help fortify that position. Beede is nearly ready for the bigs so he should end up in the rotation at some point this year, if not from the beginning. Thaiss and Ona are both young players with disciplined approaches at the plate and should have long, productive careers.
It's always tough to give up young players such at Glasnow. He oozes potential but thus far hasn't been able to replicate his minor league success to the big leagues. Maybe a change in scenery will do him well. Abreu is highly regarded in the Yankees system but is still a ways away. The same could be said for Woodford, but within the Cardinals system.
We welcome all four players to the Brewers organization and look forward to their development.
Best of luck to the trio going to the Dodgers.
